I joined the ‘Across Madrid Spanish Civil War Tour’ covering a subject in which I have been interested for many years. Almudena the guide, was excellent. The tour was detailed and thorough and brought to life the reality of the turmoil in Madrid and what it must have been like, with detail which perhaps is often missing from the many publications which have been made on the conflict.

If, like myself, you only know the basic outlines of the Spanish Civil War, but wish to understand it better, I highly recommend Almudena's Spanish Civil War tour. It is not a scripted recitation of facts or something researched to find a tour market niche, but clearly a life's work and something very dear to her. You will instead receive a passionate and engaging discourse regarding the conflict, its effect on the city and its people, and the inability of the nation to this day to properly acknowledge and deal with its legacy. Thank you Almudena!

My husband and I did this tour during a weekend stay in Madrid. Both of us are interested in the Spanish Civil War, and how there is very little information about it throughout Spain, so it was quite exciting for us to find this tour. It was a great experience, led by somebody who isn't 'just another tour guide' but is passionate about what she is talking about, and a campaigner for more recognition of the Republican victims of the war and its aftermath. She also talks about her own family experiences, which brings it alive.

If you have an interest in the Civil War - don't miss this very good tour!

Almudena is more than a tour guide, she is a partisan. From her, you will learn more than the history of the war, but also the legacy of the war as it affects Spain today. From her, you will learn of the fascist genocidal brutality during the Battle of Madrid.

Fantastic three hour tour of Madrid, seeing a side of it that you wouldn't know is there otherwise. Top-class guiding from Almudena, an academic with personal links through her family to what happened in Spain in the late 1930s.

As a person of the left and a great fan of Orwell, the Spanish Civil War has been something always in the background but that i have never got my head around. The first attempt to put into practice anarchism. A text book case in Stalinist manipulation and brutality. Also the success of a brutal dictator. Whether it is correct to call Franco a fascist is something that can be debated.

Almudena met us in the Puerta del Sol in the morning, and spent over four hours (including a brief break to recharge with a coffee) taking us around the city while pointing out various landmarks of the Spanish Civil War. She gave a clear and interesting description of the war in Madrid that I enjoyed.

Almudena's tour of sites of significance from the Spanish Civil War is not to be missed when you visit Madrid.

She gave us great insights into the history and how it influences modern-day Spain. Almudena is a passionate Republican, as was her family, and she tells the story from that perspective.

She has encyclopaedic knowledge of this critical period and has very strong views about how Spain should confront its dark past. Highly recommended!

Almudena's tour of Spanish Civil War sites was a wonderful addition to my trip to Spain.

Her knowledge and passion for her subject inspired me to want to learn even more about the war, even with having read a great deal already.

A high point of my visit to Madrid, and well worth the price.

I recently took two Spanish Civil War Tour with Across Madrid Tours. My great uncle was part of the International Brigades and for many years I was interested in visiting Spain and learning more about the war that he was so passionate about.
