Searching for the Bear of Madrid from Across Madrid

Searching for the Bear of Madrid

Come with us to discover Madrid as a family! We have created our own didactic materials for this original treasure hunt which sends children in search of a series of fantastic animals, characters and symbols, including the omnipresent emblem of the city: the Bear and Tree.

As we stroll through the historic heart of the city, children will spot the Bear and Tree in different locations.  For 3 hours, we weave a narrative that includes kings and queens, brave knights and soldiers, adventurous artists, writers and travelers as well as mythological figures. Through them, children will learn about Spanish history, traditions, food, and famous local heroes from the past.  Both children and adults will enjoy taking part in this engaging activity as we take in the main sites searching for the Bear and other characters using our exclusive educational materials, specifically designed for this family tour....

This unique treasure hunt is ideal for families with children under 12 years of age and it offers the chance to discover local customs, taste some Madrid culinary specialties and appreciate the Art and monuments we encounter across the streets and squares of the city.  Come with us and follow our Bear Trail- it is a great introduction to Spanish history and lifestyle and it is simply the best way to explore Madrid as a family! We will also offer you suggestions on the best genuine places to visit with kids, what to do and where to eat while you are here, avoiding the standard tourist traps.  We are true Madrileños, so we can share with you the best hidden gems in our home city!

This walking tour is led by Dr. Almudena Cros, an art historian born and raised in this city, who has ample experience creating original family itineraries and teaching children of various age groups.  Almudena is a qualified Art History professor (BA, MA, PhD Warwick University) who has created successful family-friendly tours in Italy and Spain.  Dr. Cros has worked as a primary school teacher assistant at the American Elementary School in Benjamin Franklin Village (Mannheim), where she taught Spanish and History of Art through visual media, and also as a family art workshop docent at CaixaForum Madrid, where her position involved introducing Art History concepts to young children and stimulating their artistic creativity.  As a parent herself, she knows how to keep their attention and focus throughout this scavenger hunt.
