Mythology for Children Tour from Across Madrid

Classical Myths: a Treasure Hunt

Come with us to discover the ancient stories told in classical Greece and Rome! This is a treasure hunt focused on Mythology at the Prado. The great narratives created in Ancient Greece to explain the world were adapted by the Roman civilization across their Empire, which included Spain (Hispania).  Later on, these great epic and tragic sagas. stories and fables were recovered in Europe through the Renaissance, and they still resonate with us in Western culture.  Throughout this treasure hunt, we will learn about fantastic creatures, heroes, gods, and goddesses with their symbols... and cheeky Cupid playing havoc all around!

This interactive visit to the Prado Museum is designed to foster children´s curiosity about Art and Classical culture. Together, we will stumble upon all sorts of creatures and explore themes such as the representation of animals, the importance of anatomy, and the legacy of Greco-Roman mythology in our everyday life and language. ...

A truly engaging learning experience for children of all ages, this private tour of the Prado for families is led by Dr. Almudena Cros, a qualified Art History professor (BA Hons, MA, PhD Warwick University) who has created successful family-friendly tours in Italy and Spain. Dr. Cros has worked as a primary school teacher assistant at the American Elementary School in Benjamin Franklin Village (Mannheim), where she taught Spanish and History of Art through visual media, and also as a docent for family art workshops at CaixaForum Madrid, where her position involved introducing Art History concepts to young children and stimulating their artistic creativity. Dr. Cros has over 20 years of experience teaching art history to children, and, as a parent herself, she knows how to keep their attention and focus throughout this treasure hunt.

The inquisitive nature of children and adults alike is catered for in this unique tour where we use our exclusive didactic materials, designed by ourselves, which feature clues to help us explore this fantastic collection. This is a family activity designed as a workshop to give everyone an opportunity to contribute.
