Thyssen Museum Tour

Master Class at the Thyssen

This 3-hour Master Class in the Thyssen Museum is ideal for those who have already experienced the Prado Museum and want to explore other art collections. The Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum houses one of the best private art collections in the world: a selection of artworks dating from the 14th to the 20th century acquired by the Thyssen family, with the recent addition of the personal collection of Carmen Thyssen, the Spanish widow of Baron Hans Heinrich Thyssen-Bornemisza....

Learn with us about precious Italian panels from the Trecento and the exquisite 15th-century diptych by Jan van Eyck, discover the most important compilation of 16th-century German and 17th-century Dutch art in Spain (including works by Dürer, Rubens and Rembrandt) and enjoy the detailed 18th-century Venetian vedute by Canaletto and Guardi. In a chronological sequence, our visit starts in the Middle Ages, focusing on the Old Masters of the Renaissance and Baroque and finishing with the Impressionist revolution in the 19th century, including works by Monet, Renoir, and Van Gogh.

Our Master Class explores themes such as patronage, artistic techniques, and social history. This guided visit encourages a discussion about the different art schools and traditions across geographical locations as varied as Italy, Germany, Holland, France, and the United States during a 700-year timeline.

This is a truly engaging learning experience designed and led by a fully qualified Art History University professor, Dr. Almudena Cros. Her extensive teaching background and specialist knowledge include a Master of Arts in Venetian Art History at Warwick University, and she has lived and studied in Italy, Germany, and England.

You will thoroughly enjoy this interactive lesson and you will come out with a new appreciation for Art.
