Explore with us the flavour and history of local food through tapas culture! Madrid’s tapas are also an exciting way to discover the character of the city and its buzzing street life.
On this evening walk, we sample some of the best local tapas from past and present: you will discover how tapas began, and how this tradition works in Spanish society. The research of Art History professor Dr. Almudena Cros brings in a unique perspective on the various types of food we find documented in Art throughout the centuries.
As we visit traditional establishments and independent and family-owned businesses, you will learn how and why tapas have become an emblematic part of the city’s nightlife and its vibrant popular culture. We will discuss the true origin and meaning of the term 'tapa', as well as the effects of historical events, cultural shifts, and gourmet trends on Madrid's food culture. This is not 'another tapas tour' but an evening of sampling tapas within the social background and history of modern Spain. Almudena is a fully qualified historian (BA, MA, PhD, Warwick University), and her classroom experience includes being an Art History professor at the Madrid campus for two American universities: Saint Louis University and Suffolk University (where she taught for 13 years).

2 people: €90 per person
3 people: €80 per person
4 people: €70 per person
We only run this tour as a private experience, for a maximum of 4 participants who know each other.
The costs for food and drink, estimated at €40 per person, are not included. You can pay for your drinks and tapas at each establishment using your credit card or cash.
If you are a solo traveller and you want to book a group tour but nobody else signs up, we will run a private tour for €180.
Family tour prices:
For family units of up to 4, including children under 18 years of age, the cost will be €200 per family. This will be a guaranteed private tour.
We can accommodate families with children and adapt this tour for you. Just let us know the ages of the children and preferred starting time (lunchtime starting at 13:30) or dinnertime (starting at 18:00), and we will run a private tour for your family.
Start times are flexible and can be adjusted to your preference.

Please note that this tour does not run on Saturdays or Sundays.
