This is the sort of tour for which we came to Spain. The docent, Almudena Cros, is a Ph.D. in art history, but has the rare gift in a teacher of being able to aim her talk to the level of the student.  The secret of great teaching is the telling detail: Sorolla, a post-Impressionist, was among the first group of artists to have advantage of industrial pigments, so he did not have to make his own paints and could work outside.

Almudena has a whimsical and dead keen wit in Spanish and English, and is able to tie the art work to cultural and historical trends.

If we'd been in Madrid longer, we would have taken more of her tours. I recommend Across Madrid without reservation.

Almu gave us 3 tours last weekend in Madrid: the Prado, Reina Sophia and Sorolla's house, and the tours were the most informative and enjoyable experiences of our stay.

The size of the museums are intimidating and she began by asking what specific interests we had and she tailored the tours to suit, and she added other interesting facts that we would never have uncovered. Her depth of knowledge is remarkable.

We enjoyed the tours so much that we engaged her to take us on a tour of Toledo which was the highlight of our long weekend. She took us to see a panoramic view of the city, then on to the Gothic Cathedral followed by the mosque and various other sites. She guided us away from the rip off restaurants to a sensibly priced restaurant for lunch and the whole day was truly memorable.

I can not recommend these tours highly enough.

My adult daughter and I did 2 separate tours with Almu and were not disappointed.

First, we did a tapas tour that she happily tailored for us as my daughter is vegetarian. Whilst providing historical and cultural information we enjoyed delicious food in bars and restaurants we would never have gone to by ourselves.

After finding out our interests, the next day's tour was tailored for us. We went to Museo Sorolla, walked quiet streets, ate more delicious pastries and ended at the Palace.

Almu enhanced our visit to this exciting and vibrant city.
